Aerial Footage at Vale Furnishers – Capturing a Unique Retail Space

Colin Fyfield

In 2022, we had the opportunity to work with Vale Furnishers, a family-owned furniture retailer established in 1960in Ash Vale, Surrey. Their request was simple yet challenging: capture high-quality external stock footage of their showroom, along with their newly expanded car park. However, with the store situated on a busy road and within Farnborough Airport’s Flight Restricted Zone, we had to carefully plan our approach to ensure safe and compliant drone operations.

Overcoming Challenges in a Restricted Airspace

Operating in a controlled airspace near Farnborough Airport required additional permissions and careful coordination. The busy road added an extra layer of complexity, demanding precise flight planning and safety assessments. Despite these challenges, we successfully captured stunning cinematic aerial shots that highlighted the storefront, parking area, and surrounding landscape.

Expanding into Interior Drone Work

Vale Furnishers also requested interior drone footage, which posed a new challenge at the time. Our equipment then consisted mainly of cinematic drones, which are less suited for flying indoors compared to modern FPV drones. Nevertheless, we adapted and delivered a selection of usable interior shots, showcasing the showroom’s spacious layout and diverse furniture collections.

Social Media Success

A memorable highlight from this project was the huge engagement on Vale Furnishers’ Instagram post featuring an image of me holding the drone controller. It became one of their most engaged posts ever, demonstrating the power of behind-the-scenes content in connecting with audiences.
