Aldershot Lido: From Uncertain Future to Grand Reopening

Colin Fyfield

Aldershot Lido has been a beloved summer destination for generations, but like many public spaces, it faced an uncertain future after closing during the 2020 lockdown. In 2021, I conducted two drone flights over the lido, capturing its state of disrepair. At the time, discussions were ongoing about whether it was financially viable to reopen or repurpose the site.

The resulting drone videos sparked interest in the lido, drawing attention to its condition and future potential. This led to an unexpected opportunity—I was approached to collaborate with local vlogger Rebecca from Explore with Rebecca (@ExplorewithRebecca) to create promotional videos for the lido’s relaunch.

Behind the Scenes: Exclusive Access to the Lido Before Reopening

As part of the promotional effort, we were invited for a private preview of Aldershot Lido before it officially reopened. This included a behind-the-scenes tour, showcasing the refurbishments and preparations to welcome visitors back for summer.

Filming alongside Rushmoor Borough Council, we helped relaunch Aldershot Lido, capturing stunning aerial and ground footage to highlight its revitalized pools, slides, and facilities.

Aldershot Lido’s Revival & The Power of Visual Storytelling

This experience was a great example of how drone videography and digital media can help preserve, promote, and bring new life to historic locations. Through aerial footage and online engagement, we played a small role in reviving a cherished local landmark.
